Description
The many‑spined cluster fan is a succulent shrub in the cactus family, genus Opuntia. It can grow more than 2–3 m tall, with a diameter of about 3–4 cm, making it a large species. The stem segments are cylindrical, bearing spines with bristles, and near the top there are thick, fleshy oval leaves. The plant produces red flowers in summer. It prefers warm, sunny conditions but does not tolerate direct intense light and should be shaded appropriately. Its cold tolerance is weak, so it requires protective measures during winter. It enjoys a warm, well‑lit environment but is sensitive to strong light; excessive light should be mitigated by shade. It likes a moist, humid environment; frequent watering and occasional misting are recommended. Because of poor cold tolerance, special care must be taken to keep it warm.
