The plant has a flattened globular tuber at the base and a bud at the apex. Its branches are green, clustered, and mature plants usually reach a height of about 30 cm, though some individuals grow even taller. Leaves arise on the upper part of the branches, are elliptical, opposite, with a pointed tip, and green. Both the leaves and the young stems are densely covered with short white hairs that are smooth and glossy. Flowers are produced at the tip of the branches; the floral tube is slender, and the petals have a slightly curved tip. They are red and are covered on the outside with white wool. The flowering period is from late spring to early autumn.
