Description

Native to Zimbabwe and South Africa, this plant belongs to the Oleaceae family and the Nerium genus, and is primarily grown for ornamental purposes. It blooms from March to November, thriving best at temperatures between 18 °C and 32 °C. The plant prefers hot, humid conditions and strong light, but it is sensitive to waterlogging. It requires well‑drained soil that is rich in humus and calcareous loam; a suitable mix can be made with peat, six parts river sand, and a small amount of crushed eggshell or shell powder. When preparing the soil, sift the compost to remove dust and large particles and sterilise it. During its growing period, the plant should be watered thoroughly, and irrigation must be stopped firmly when temperatures fall below 12 °C.
