Description
Opuntia santa-rita, commonly known as the Saint Rita cactus, is a erect shrub in the cactus family that has attracted wide attention for its distinctive violet-red stems and vivid flowers.
Morphological Features
The pad segments are round or oval, with edges covered in dense yellow fine spines. During winter or under dry conditions, the nodes appear violet, becoming more intense in colder weather, while in summer they may turn bluish-gray. Flowers bloom at the end of spring and beginning of summer, with bright yellow multi-lobed blooms that contrast sharply with the purple stems.
