Description
Kleinia mweroensis (synonym Senecio mweroensis) is a succulent in the daisy family (Asteraceae) and the genus *Senecio*. Its fleshy roots are spindle‑shaped and yellow‑brown, and the short, thick, branching stems have a gray‑green to deep green epidermis that turns purple‑brown under strong light and displays black, daisy‑like fine patterns. The leaves cluster at the top of the stem, are slender, green with a white powder, and show a purple halo when exposed to strong light. After early leaf drop, scars remain on the stem. The plant has terminal capitula that are red and bloom in summer and autumn. It originates from the dry regions of southern Africa, prefers ample sunlight, warm dry conditions, and is a drought‑tolerant “summer type” succulent. Its growing season is from April to October; it requires full sun to maintain the stem patterns. During the high‑temperature, semi‑dormant summer period, watering and fertilizing should be reduced. Every month during the growing season, a low‑nitrogen, high‑phosphorus‑potassium compound fertilizer should be applied. Watering follows the “dry‑then‑thorough” principle, and good ventilation and moisture control are essential. When cultivating, avoid sudden intense sunlight, and a semi‑shade environment can cause the stems to become weak and the patterns to fade.
