Description
Red Cloud Pavilion (scientific name: Euphorbia trigona ‘Rubra’), also known as Red Dragon Bone, is a shrub‑like succulent plant in the Euphorbiaceae family. The plant grows to about 1 meter tall; its stems stand upright and are triangular in cross‑section, dark green, fleshy, heavily branched, and have multiple ridges. The ridges are wavy, and the skin bears reddish‑brown transverse veins and opposite hard spines of reddish‑brown. The leaves are ovate and dark red; the flowers are cup‑shaped yellow‑green, blooming in summer. Compared with the original Cloud Pavilion variety, the Red Cloud Pavilion has darker stems and leaves and grows more slowly. It originates from the tropical region of southern Namibia in Africa, preferring warm, dry, sunny conditions. During the growing season, it can be placed on a south‑facing balcony or sunny courtyard, watered thoroughly, and fed with a light fertilizer low in nitrogen and high in phosphorus and potassium once a month. In winter, move it indoors to a bright sunny spot, keep the potting soil dry, and it can overwinter safely at temperatures above 5 °C. Repot it annually in spring, using loose, fertile, well‑drained sandy soil.
