Description
Astrophytum myriostigma cv. Onzuka ‘Ball’, a horticultural variety cultivated in Japan, is generally spherical, which can be described as a spherical Enzhong Luanfeng Yu. Astrophytum myriostigma cv. Onzuka forma columnare is also a horticultural variety cultivated in Japan. Typically, Luanfeng Yu takes many years to gradually develop from a spherical shape to a columnar form. This variety shows columnar growth from a young age, and its diameter is relatively small, usually 5–8 cm, which can be described as a columnar Enzhong Luanfeng Yu. Enzhong Luanfeng Yu grows vigorously, is easy to plant, and is very suitable for beginners. During spring and autumn, it prefers ample sunlight and adequate moisture, but watering is advisable when the potting soil is about 70‑80% dry. In summer, provide moderate shading to avoid direct intense light while maintaining adequate moisture. When winter temperatures drop below 5 °C, watering should be reduced. Regarding soil mix, Enzhong Luanfeng Yu prefers a loose, breathable medium such as peat, coconut coir, and granulated soil, with a slightly higher proportion of granulated soil. Avoid leaving the potting soil in a persistently damp state. Additionally, if Enzhong Luanfeng Yu receives insufficient light, its epidermis may turn green.
